The Over 60 Club or "Young at Heart" club meets fortnightly on
a Tuesday afternoon. The average attendance is 40-50 men and Ladies
who enjoy a varied programme.
This year the programme has
included a variety of speakers, such as Mr Watson from the Dorset Wildlife
Trust who showed beautiful slides of Dorset wild flowers. Major Gillian
Smith spoke about her work in prison ministry, and Lt.Colonel Doug Rayner
led an interesting afternoon on "Keepsakes". Other
speakers have included Major Barbara Loasby, the previous club Secretary,
Major Linda Cordner, D.H.Q., and the Corps Officers from both Poole
and Pokesdown all of whom provided afternoons of fun and interest.
Musical afternoons have been provided by the Trefoil Guild Choir, and
our own Home League Singers.
Phil Carey and Tom Lynch spoke of experiences in the RAF and Military
band respectively, sharing amusing stories, bringing back memories
to members of wartime days. Also featured were afternoons with
The Home League Fellowship Singers, and Ruth Upton, the club treasurer,
telling of "Life down on the farm". There has been an annual
outing which took the group on a trip round the New Forest with a short
stop at Romsey, finishing at Southampton Shirley Corps for a nicely
prepared dinner. A "Call my Bluff" afternoon provided
much fun and laughter.
The "Young at
Heart" club provides, friendship, fun and fellowship
in a Christian environment and several of our members attend Sunday
meetings.
