Boscombe
Salvation Army Easter Convention
The Boscombe Easter
Convention is a massive event that occurs on Easter
weekend and the week preceeding it every year at Boscombe Salvation
Army. The event features guest speakers/leaders, guest musical
sections/groups from other UK based Salvation Army centres or
even international musical groups. During the afternoon on the
Sunday is an Easter March through Bounemouth Town Centre/Gardens
which is well represented and supported - a real crowd puller!
Recent conventions have included the following:
2005 - Led by Southern Divisional Commanders Majors Ian and
Christine Barr. Also featured were dramatist Keith Turton (from
UK Territorial HQ) and Cardiff Canton SA Band.
2006 - Led by Commissioners Phil and Keitha Needham (USA)
and Pasadena
Tabernacle Songsters (California, USA). Pasadena were concluding
their two week UK tour at Boscombe. Saturday festivals were presented
by Pasendena Tabernacle Songsters at both 2.00pm and 7.00pm.
2007 - The visit of General Shaw Clifton and Commissioner
Helen Clifton together with the Enfield Salvation Army Band (London).
As always, the General was succinct and articulate in his language
and delivered the kind of message that outlined exactly where he
thinks the Army should be heading, full of purpose with God at the
centre.
2008 - Chief of Staff Commissioner Robin Dunster and Boscombe Corps senior musical sections.
The Saturday night concert was by Festival Brass, Boscombe Songsters and featured guest soloist Sheona White (tenor horn).
2009 - The leaders were our own Territorial Commanders Commissioners
John and Betty Matear together with Kettering Salvation Army Band.
2010 - In Boscombe Salvation Army's 125th year, the guest
speakers for our Easter Convention were Commissioners Robert and
Janet Street. The Saturday evening concert and Sunday evening concert
were presented by Boscombe Band and Songsters along with special
guest soloists Sue Blyth (vocal) and former Boscombe Bandsman Steven
Mead (Euphonium).
